94 Grow Up To Be An Astronaut - South Park

I'm Gonna Relate This Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un9COyhQ40Q (Particularly The Segments From 0:00-2:5510:00-12:45, And 12:55 0N) To The Low Socioeconomic, Low IQ, Uneducated, Disenfranchised Hawaiians Protesting The Building Of The Telescope On Mauna Kea. Their Protest Has Nothing To Do With The Construction And Use Of The Space Station And Everything To Do With Social Identity And Ethnic Pride.

*They Protest With The Unconscious Intent To Prove Who's One Of Them And Who Isn't Based On Who Protests And Supports The Cause And Who Doesn't (It All Boils Down To Social SignalingA Concept That Explains Much Of Human Behavior And The Links To Which I'll Provide Later). If They Were Really Concerned About The Plight Of Hawaiians They'd Protest The Businesses And Land ChineseJapanese, Korean, And White Business And Land Owners  Are Using To Slowly But Surely Liquidate Them Of Their Monies And Overtake These Islands. But They're Too Subdued, Enmeshed And Emotionally Committed To The Culturally Amalgamated "Hawaiian Culture" (The New Hawaiian Culture Composed Of ChineseJapaneseKorean, EtcCultureTo Do This (Loot White And Asian Businesses And Burn Down The Homes Of Whites And Asians).  (Have You Seen These Hawaiian Demonstrators? The Majority Of Them Look White And Asian! If They Knew Anything About The Space Station They'd Revere It Rather Than Smear It!)

*THEY DON'T WANT THE WESTERNIZED, SCIENTIFICALLY MINDED HAOLE EXPLOITING THEIR AINA! EVEN THOUGH THE HAOLE EXPLOITS THEIR AINA AND KAMA'AINA IN MANY OTHER NON-SCIENTIFICALLY BASED WAYS! MAKES PERFECT SENSE, RIGHT?

THE RACIALLY MIXED DESCENDANTS OF THE FULL-BLOODED INDIGENOUS HAWAIIANS WHO ONCE DOMINATED AND PREDOMINATED ON THESE ISLANDS ARE NOW A MARGINALIZED AND DEPRIVED GROUP. THEY LACK POWER, INFLUENCE, AND WEALTH, SO THEY ENDORSE BELIEFS (e.g. WESTERN WHITE SOCIETY OWES US) AND ENGAGE IN BEHAVIOR (e.g. PROTEST AGAINST WESTERN WHITE CULTURE) IN HOPES OF LEVELING THE PLAYING FIELD (RETAKE SOME OF THAT WEALTH, POWER, AND INFLUENCE). THEIR BEHAVIOR IS NO DIFFERENT THAN MEMBERS OF A CHIMPANZEE TROOP WHO HAVE LOST TERRITORY TO A RIVAL TROOP!

I LIKE PROFESSOR HARRY DAVIS' COMMENT AND PROFESSOR DUSKO PAVLOVIC'S COMMENT IN THE 1ST PHOTO AND PROFESSOR JOHN LEARNED'S AND PROFESSOR HARRY DAVIS' COMMENT IN THE 2ND PHOTO. THEY'RE SPOT ON!

A resurgent populist politics has galvanized public skepticism of the scientific community by portraying academics as a remote elite, distinct from the American populace. This delineation leverages our innate tribal instincts to breed distrust of expertise, providing fertile ground for bad actors to sow seeds of doubt about what we know to be true of the world. Naturally, an army of professional scientists have stood up to this rhetoric, amplifying their voices on social media and assembling political action committees (such as 314 Action) to help fight the onslaught against truth. But too often, scientists and science advocates fail to connect with their audiences.

(These Mauna Kea Protests Stem From A Desire To Express Group Identity. Native Hawaiians As A Whole, Like The Poor, White Trash And Lower Class, Asian Mutts Who Identify With Them, Are A Disenfranchised, Disillusioned, Uneducated, Marginalized, And Impoverished People. So They Look At American Institutions And Academic (Scientific) Interests With Envy And MistrustWhy? because They Can't Identify With Them Since They've Never Belonged To Any Of These Institutions Or Benefitted From These Interests, Which Goes Back To The Point That This Anti-TMT Movement Is Based On An Identity Difference With The Western Scientific Community And Corporate America. TO BE CONTINUED.)

WHAT WILL DEMONSTRATIONS LIKE THESE LEAD TO? GREATER INTERRACIAL BREEDING (GUYS AND GALS WITH NO NATIVE HAWAIIAN DNA HAVING CHILDREN WITH GUYS AND GALS THAT HAVE NATIVE HAWAIIAN DNA LIKE THIS https://www.pornhub.com/view_video.php?viewkey=ph5d70347dda705 AND THIS https://www.pornhub.com/view_video.php?viewkey=ph5cf0d61f285ca AND THIS  https://www.pornhub.com/view_video.php?viewkey=ph60c7f6591a5ae) THUS CREATING MONGRELS LIKE THIS:

Now, Look At This Nigger! This Is The New Face Of Native Hawaiians, Literally! They Look Mostly Nigger Or Mostly Cracker Or Mostly Chink Or Mostly Pinot, But Have Native Hawaiian 1st And Last Names (Last Names That Typically Aren't Their Actual Last Names) With Little To No Hawaiian DNA

(Many Of My Readers Notice My Preoccupation With DNA And May Think To Themselves, "What Does It Matter If His Surname Doesn't Match His Y-Chromosome DNA?" Or "What Does It Matter If He Doesn't Have As Much Native DNA As His Name Would Suggest?" Let ME Tell You Why It MattersIt Matters Because His Mother Created A Fictitious Story About His Racial Makeup And It Matters Because DNA Determines The Outcome Of One's Life And The Lives Of Those That One Surrounds *Oneself WithDNA Plays The Biggest Role In Determining The Direction Of One's Life And The Lives Of Those That One's Surrounded By.)

AND THIS:

*How Does One's DNA Impact Those That One Surrounds Him/Herself With? Through Inclusive Fitness And Genetic Similarity (Favoring People That Look And Think Like You And Thus Helping Those People Pass On Their Genes).
(THE NATIVES PROTEST UNDER THE PRETEXT THAT THEY'RE PRESERVING THE CULTURE AND LAND, BUT IN ACTUALITY THESE PROTEST ARE MOTIVATED BY A DESIRE TO SIGNAL COMMITMENT TO ANTI-AMERICAN, ANTI-WESTERN SCIENCE IDEOLOGY WITHOUT HAVING TO PRESERVE HAWAIIAN DNA!)

Why is it that public memory gives far more importance to the destruction of two civilian buildings, and the killing of brokers, accountants and clerks?

It is because the Pentagon is a relatively flat and unassuming building, whereas the World Trade Center was a tall phallic totem whose collapse made an immense audiovisual effect.

The Same Logic Applies To The Occupation Of Mauna Kea By Protestors (Terrorists). They Chose That Location And Building Project Because It Would Generate The Most Publicity And Garner The Most Attention To Their Cause.

The Mauna Kea Protesters Are No Different Than Any Other Terrorist Organization.
https://twitter.com/Anthrofuentes/status/1174323315890184192 JUST AS THE FULL-BLOODED NATIVE INDIANS (TAINO) OF PUERTO RICO WENT EXTINCT AND THE ONLY REMINDER OF THEIR EXISTENCE IS THE TINY FRAGMENTS OF THEIR DNA IN MODERN, RACIALLY ADMIXED PUERTO RICANS, SO TOO WILL NATIVE HAWAIIANS IF THEY DON'T IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZE THE HARM THAT INTERRACIAL BREEDING AND MULTICULTURALISM HAS DONE AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO TO THEM.

What's The Basis Of Their Protest? That The Space Station Is Built On Sacred Grounds? Well, If That's The Case They Should Be Protesting All Of The HomesOffice BuildingsPlazas,  Recreation CentersEtc. That Are Built On "Sacred Grounds" As Well. As A Matter Of Fact,  If Their Protest Was Really Based On The Supposed Desecration Of Sacred Grounds They'd Be Protesting Throughout The Islands Because There Are Many, Many European And Asian Owned Properties On Sacred Grounds! The Reason They Don't Is Because The Majority Of These Other Properties Are Privately Owned (By Their White And Asian "Allies") And Aren't FOCAL POINT OF NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION! In Other Words, They Protest On Mauna Kea Not Because Of The Supposed Environmental Impact Or Supposed Sacrilege Of Building On Such Grounds, But Because Mauna Kea Provides Them The Platform To Generate The Most Attention For Their Cause, Their Cause Based On Social Identity And Ethnocentrism Not Environmental Degradation And Cultural Desecration!

(Non-Native Hawaiians Like She Publicly Voice Their Disapproval Of The Observatory Because Doing So Signals To Native Hawaiians That They're On Their Side (The Native's Side) Even Though Their Asian Ancestors And Descendants Have Overtaken The Islands, Over-Exploited The Islands, Overworked The Natives, Worked Over The Natives, And Own And Operate All Of The Businesses! In Other Words, These Non-Native Hawaiians Espouse This Belief (That The Observatory Is Harming The Environment And The Government And Scientist Are Disregarding The Native Culture) Not Because They Truly Believe This, But Because Announcing This Deflects Attention From The Fact That They (Asians And Whites) Themselves Now Dominate Hawaiian Society While Forcing The Native Population To The Margins Of Their Own Land, Literally. So, It's A Form Of Appearing Innocuous (Harmless) And Helpful To The Natives While At The Same Time Ridding Them (The Non-Native Hawaiians) Of A Guilty Conscience!

OBSERVATION NUMBER 88: The Whiter A Local Looks (Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes) Or More Asian A Local Looks (Yellow Skin, Slant Eyes) The More They'll Compensate For Their Non-Native Hawaiian Appearance (The Fact That They Don't Have Hawaiian Genes) By Throwing The Shaka Sign As Often As Possible, Speaking Pidgin Every Chance They Get, Emblazoning Their Bodies With Polynesian Tattoos, Adorning Their Bodies, Cars, And Homes With Hawaiian Flags! WHAT NEGATIVE IMPACT WILL THE SPACE STATION HAVE ON "HAWAIIANS" LIVING IN VEGAS? NO NEGATIVE IMPACT AT ALL. IN FACT, IT'LL BENEFIT HAWAIIANS AND NON-HAWAIIANS ALIKE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME UNLIKE MANY OF THE OTHER BUSINESSES AND BUILDINGS ON THESE ISLANDS. SO, WHY ARE THESE CLOWNS PROTESTING? THEY'RE PROTESTING TO SHOW THEIR ALLEGIANCE TO THE CAUSE (ADVERTISE THEIR ANTI-AMERICAN AND ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT PERSONALITY TRAITS LIKE THE REST OF THEIR IN-GROUP) AS WELL AS ESTABLISH OR DEMONSTRATE THEIR "HAWAIIAN" IDENTITY. THE IRONY IS THAT IF THE PART HAWAIIANS IN VEGAS REALLY GAVE A DAMN ABOUT THE HAWAIIANS ON THE ISLANDS AND THEIR CULTURE THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT THE ISLANDS TO BEGIN WITH (TO LIVE IN VEGAS AND HAVE CHILDREN WITH NON-HAWAIIANS). (IMAGINE IF THE POWERS THAT BE BUILT CASINOS ON SACRED HAWAIIAN GROUNDS AND ATOP MAUNA KEA, SPECIFICALLY (A NICE TRUMP* BUILT  RESORT AND CASINO ATOP MAUNA KEA)? DO YOU THINK THESE "HAWAIIANS"  WOULD  BE COMPLAINING ABOUT THEM BEING BUILT ON SACRED GROUNDS AND BOYCOTTING THEM? I DON'T THINK SO!)

*TRUMP CARD (PLAY THE TRUMP CARD, PIMP)!

AND ALL OF THESE HAWAIIANS HAVE HAD CHILDREN WITH NON-HAWAIIANS (HAWAIIANS WITH NO HAWAIIAN DNA)! THEY PROTEST SO THAT THEY AND PEOPLE LIKE THEY CAN CREATE MORE NON-HAWAIIANS WHO WILL THEN INHERIT THE LAND! THE AINA!
Medley of photos from celebrities saying: We are Mauna Kea

I WONDER WHAT THE AVERAGE IQAVERAGE EDUCATION LEVELAVERAGE SOCIOECONOMIC LEVEL, AND AVERAGE PERCENTAGE OF HAWAIIAN DNA THAT THESE DEMONSTRATORS HAVE. I THINK IF YOU WERE TO ROUND ALL OF THEM UP AND COMPILE THEIR SCORES TO THE ABOVE QUESTIONS YOU'D FIND THAT THE MAJORITY OF THEM WERE OF A LOW IQLOW EDUCATION LEVELLOW SOCIOECONOMIC LEVEL, AND OF LITTLE TO NO HAWAIIAN DNA. AND THIS LATTER MATTER IS THE MOST IMPORTANT, BECAUSE WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE OUR GENES ARE THE ONLY THINGS THE MAJORITY OF US WILL LEAVE BEHIND AND THANKS TO MOVEMENTS LIKE THIS THE GENES OF WHITE AND ASIAN "HAWAIIANS" WILL BE ALLOWED TO SPREAD FAR AND WIDE.
This Drawing Accurately Portrays The Mindset And Basis Of The Native's Protest. The Majority Of Them Don't Really Know Why They're Protesting (They Don't Have A Thorough Understanding Of The Issue And Therefore Can't Make A Rational And Cogent Argument Against It), But They Protest To Conform With The Beliefs And Behaviors Of Their In-Group. Or They Don't Realize Nor Want To Recognize The Benefits Of The Observatory Because Doing So Will Mark Them As Members Of The Out-Group (Civilized, Westernized, Educated White Americans) And Subject Them To Ostracism. (This How Primitive And Uninformed They Are. This Is How Clannish They Are. Psychologically These People Are One Step Away From Their Primal And Tribal Minded Ancestors.)
People are embraced or condemned according to their beliefs, so one function of the mind may be to hold beliefs that bring the belief-holder the greatest number of allies, protectors, or disciples, rather than beliefs that are most likely to be true.
In other words, just like Acme, the human brain has to strike an awkward balance between two different reward systems:
  • Meritocracy, where we monitor beliefs for accuracy out of fear that we'll stumble by acting on a false belief; and
  • Cronyism, where we don't care about accuracy so much as whether our beliefs make the right impressions on others.
And so we can roughly (with caveats we'll discuss in a moment) divide our beliefs into merit beliefs and crony beliefs. Both contribute to our bottom line — survival and reproduction — but they do so in different ways: merit beliefs by helping us navigate the world, crony beliefs by helping us look good.
The point is, our brains are incredibly powerful organs, but their native architecture doesn't care about high-minded ideals like Truth. They're designed to work tirelessly and efficiently — if sometimes subtly and counterintuitively — in our self-interest. So if a brain anticipates that it will be rewarded for adopting a particular belief, it's perfectly happy to do so, and doesn't much care where the reward comes from — whether it's pragmatic (better outcomes resulting from better decisions), social (better treatment from one's peers), or some mix of the two. A brain that didn't adopt a socially-useful (crony) belief would quickly find itself at a disadvantage relative to brains that are more willing to "play ball." In extreme environments, like the French Revolution, a brain that rejects crony beliefs, however spurious, may even find itself forcibly removed from its body and left to rot on a pike. Faced with such incentives, is it any wonder our brains fall in line?

Yet science has a cultural history, too, with roots going back to the dawn of civilization. The same curiosity to find what lies beyond the horizon that first brought early Polynesians to Hawaii's shores inspires astronomers today to explore the heavens. Calls to dismantle all telescopes on Mauna Kea or to ban future development there ignore the reality that astronomy and Hawaiian culture both seek to answer big questions about who we are, where we come from and where we are going.

In the spirit of compromise, the astronomy community is changing its use of Mauna Kea. The TMT site was chosen to minimize the telescope's visibility around the island and to avoid archaeological and environmental impact, and the TMT will pay $1 million annually (in addition to the STEM funding mentioned earlier) to lease the land on which it resides, with 80 percent of those funds going to stewardship of the mountain. To limit the number of telescopes on Mauna Kea, old ones will be removed at the end of their lifetimes and their sites returned to a natural state.
Kakela

Some information I think most people against TMT don’t actually know... it won’t be visible from the summit or lake Waiau or any burials. It will also be a mile away from the closest worship site and does not sit on a site where any traditional culture is practiced. Also they plan to decommission 5 of the 13 scopes at the summit and fully restore the land leaving only 9 amazingly useful telescopes. For everyone that thinks this scope will ruin there aquifer, it will be a closed loop system and any waste will be piped off the mountain and fully treated, leaving no pollution to water or mountain. Runs off of normal power grid with a normal A/C Not a nuclear reactor. A survey taken in 2018 had a 78% approval rate among locals. TMT is also going to use local workers and not outsource. With millions donated to local schools and the agreement to work with culture and pay a million in rent a year(other scopes have not had to pay any rent). After 50 year lease TMT will be removed from mountain along with all the other scopes. There is enough space for culture and science to live in harmony on Mauna Kea.

I'm Surprised NO ONE'S Attempted To Mow 'Em DownMow 'Em Down, Big Fella!
12:55 "THE VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN MY MODERN SOCIETIES HAVE ALMOST NO POLITICAL POWER, YET HAVE STRONG POLITICAL CONVICTIONS THAT THEY BROADCAST INSISTENTLYFREQUENTLY, AND LOUDLY WHEN SOCIAL CONDITIONS ARE RIGHT...MY POINT IS THAT THE INDIVIDUAL BENEFITS OF EXPRESSING POLITICAL IDEOLOGY ARE USUALLY NOT POLITICAL AT ALLBUT SOCIAL AND SEXUAL*. AS SUCHPOLITICAL IDEOLOGY IS UNDER STRONG SOCIAL AND SEXUAL CONSTRAINT...WHY DO MORE MEN THAN WOMEN RUN FOR POLITICAL OFFICE? WHY ARE MOST IDEOLOGICAL REVOLUTIONS INITIATED BY YOUNGSINGLE MEN?" - GEOFFREY

My conversation with Andrew Gelman inspires me to elaborate my position on politics:
Policy wonks talk about political ideologies as sets of value weights to use in policy tradeoffs … I’m suggesting instead that “Politics Isn’t About Policy.”  In large polities, the main function of our politics in our lives is how it influences the way others see us; its influence on us via policy is far weaker.   But it looks bad to admit we do politics to selfishly show off, instead of to help society make better policy.  So we are built to instead talk, and think, as if we do politics for its influence on policy; we are build to be self-deceived about how politics matters to us
Our ancestors argued beliefs and negotiated actions in groups ranging from size two to a hundred.  No doubt they evolved to adapt their behavior to the size of the group, at least within this range.  And for the largest groups, the main payoffs from their arguing and negotiating behavior was not via influencing the resulting group beliefs and actions, but from how their words and deeds influenced how others thought of them.  This is all the more true for modern group sizes, and I suspect our strategies are adaptive enough to emphasize impression management even more for larger groups.
So to develop a better theory of politics, we must answer this key question: what were the most important ways that our ancestors influenced how others thought of them via their words and deeds regarding large group beliefs and actions?  It is easy to list some possibilities, but much harder to judge their relative importance:

DO YOU THINK THESE COUPLES ARE AWARE OF THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC ADVANTAGES THAT ACCRUE TO HAWAII BY HAVING A STATE OF THE ART OBSERVATORY IN THE MOST IDEAL LOCATION ON THE EARTH? I DON'T THINK THEY'RE AWARE OF THESE ADVANTAGES, BOB! AS A MATTER OF FACT, THE ONLY REASON THEY DEMONSTRATE IS BECAUSE IT ALLOWS THEM TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR CONFORMITY TO IN-GROUP IDEOLOGY (THE WHITE MAN HAS STOLEN AND DESECRATED THE AINA) AS WELL DEMONSTRATE THEIR LOYALTY AND LOVE TO THEIR INTELLECTUAL AND IDEOLOGICAL EQUALS.
Jul 21 Exactly right...cesspool of conformity.  The herd mentality is rewarded. Irreverent originality is rejected.

6:06 CREATION MYTH (MAKE BELIEVE STORY) THAT HAS BEEN DISPROVED BY WESTERN SCIENCE (HUMAN EVOLUTION, EVOLUTIONARY PSYCHOLOGY, BIOLOGY, PHYSICS, ASTROPHYSICS, ETC.)

"The myth is to the savage what, to a fully believing Christian, is the Biblical story of Creation, of the Fall, of the Redemption by Christ's Sacrifice on the Cross." - Bronislaw Malinowski

...The vast majority of people around the world belong to one particular religious faith or another, which is defined not so much by a belief in God as by its idiosyncratic creation myth. Each member is committed to believe that his religion's creation myth, accounting for the supernatural origin of the universe and humanity, is superior to all others. The problem is that all the myths cannot be correct; no two can be correct; and almost certainly none is correct.
...
Gripped by such majestic displays evolved over centuries, it is easy to forget that religious art is dedicated to the regnant creation story, that deviation from the story is not permitted, and that brutal wars have been fought to replace one story over another. The secular humanities, to put the matter plainly, must compete with organized religions and religion-like ideologies for attention and volunteer public funding...
...
Meanwhile, it needs to be recognized, and talked about more frankly, that for philosophy the elephant in the kitchen is organized religion. More precisely, the understanding of the human condition often foretold by the blending of science and religion is inhibited by the intervention of supernatural creation stories, each defining a separate tribe. It is one thing to hold and share the elevated spiritual values of theological religion, with a belief in the divine and trust in the existence of an afterlife. It is another thing entirely to adopt a particular supernatural creation story. Faith in a creation story gives comforting membership in a tribe. But it bears stressing that not all creation stories can be true, no two can be true, and most assuredly, all are false. Each is sustained by blind tribalistic faith alone. Everyone remotely knowledgeable attests to the fact that men are, On average, more rational. You see it in all sorts of idiotic New Age fashion from astrology to angel therapy conferences where male share is less than a few %

It's not "so-called" progress. It's objectively progress. You can do a lot of science with a 30m telescope that you can't do with a 10m telescope.

Religion, however you dress it up, should not block scientific progress, and should not dictate use of public land.
Aug 20 Or they care about the people of Hawaii more than they care about religious superstition.
In other words, the only religious/cultural object near the site was, in fact, put there very recently, in 2015, specifically by opponents of TMT, as an act of protest. It is not evidence of "customary" or "traditional" cultural/religious practice on the TMT site.
"There was no physical evidence that the TMT Observatory site was used for storing piko, iwi (bones of the dead), placenta or other artifacts. There was no evidence of ahu (shrine or altar), lele (sacrificial altar), or other historic properties therein."
Aug 20 "There was also no evidence of mele (song, anthem, or chant) or hula being performed in the area. After extensive surveying, no archaeological or historic sites or burials were found in any of the TMT Observatory site or Access Way areas."
In other words, there is no evidence of any archaeological sites or customary cultural/religious practices on the site.
does not hinder anyone's ability to freely exercise their religion, since there are no religious practices on the TMT site.

However, blocking because one religion considers sacred would be an establishment of religion.
I will be teaching about and other issues in my religion and public life course this semester. I hope students will see the inequitable ways that religious claims achieve political traction in our society.
I don't know about anyone else. But I am getting a bit tired of stupid humans getting in the way of intelligent humans trying to answer big questions and LEARN more about reality. There is nothing "sacred" about a pile of treeless  lava pushed up out of the sea.

How many of those protesters, I wonder, would consider themselves part of the "party of science"?
I'd venture that they're all on the left, but how they could claim to be members of the "party of science" and keep a straight face, I can't imagine. Notably, people have been camped out for months, so they must not be working.
Science Denied Hawaiian-Style
Anyway, being frozen and landlocked in Minnesotastan I was completely unaware that Hawaii has become ground zero for science denial and fundamentalist religiosity.

Using this argument, Hawaiian politicos and judges have for years been able to successfully obstruct the project.
“Scientific integrity died on Mauna Kea, killed by political correctness.”
As I’ve written in previous columns, abortion isn’t my hill to die on. It’s just not my pet issue. But this has to be said: Hawaii is one of the most historically and consistently pro-choice states in the U.S. (indeed, the state fully allows partial-birth abortions). Just last week, Hawaii senator Mazie Hirono helped torpedo the GOP-sponsored “born alive” bill, which would have mandated medical care for babies born alive during an attempted abortion procedure.
So wrap your brain around this: In Hawaii, a baby is not a living being entitled to protection under the law, but a mountain is. A viable newborn is considered as inanimate as a rock, and an inanimate rock is considered as alive as a human. You don’t have to be pro-life to appreciate just how breathtakingly insane that is. Think what you want about abortion, but this is just nuts. You can argue abortion laws forever, but everyone except the most extreme pro-abortion loons (“A fetus is just a tumor, maaaan!”) at least concedes that a viable fetus is made of living tissue and a rock is not. Are we really living in an age where that simple truth is now controversial?
As the TMT suffered one defeat after another at the hands of Hawaiian politicians and judges, surely the atheist rationalist IFLScience crowd expressed its outrage. I mean, imagine if the construction of a hugely important scientific project was thwarted by a bunch of Republicans in the South because local Christians consider the land on which the project is to be built “sacred.”
“We want to build a groundbreaking new telescope atop Emory Peak.”
“Sorry, we can’t allow that. Creationists believe that this is the site where the dinosaurs were killed by Jesus to gift Texans with the blessing of fossil fuels, so it’s off-limits.”
How is that any more ludicrous than claiming that your umbilical-cord-laden mountain is a living deity entitled to full protection under the law? Yet the smug, Bill Maher-loving atheist men of science have not only been silent on the Mauna Kea controversy, they’ve actually weighed in on the side of the poi polloi.
I don’t think most scientists are cool with the TMT being held hostage to ancient superstitions. But they know what’ll happen if they appear to insult “indigenous” people of color. They know they’ll be tarred as racists. They know their careers will be over. So they play along, and if a little “intellectual gain” has to be sacrificed, so be it
Two months ago, the Hawaii .Supreme Court ruled that construction of the TMT can begin, under a plan that forces the demolition of other telescopes in Hawaii to appease the angry god (yes, perfectly good observatories will be destroyed). Local activists say that’s not enough, and they’re planning protests and roadblocks to stop construction (essentially “Operation Rescue” to save the Rock Biter from The NeverEnding Story).
Will scientists have the guts to stand up for intellectual gain? Take a guess. Scientific integrity died on Mauna Kea, killed by political correctness.
R.I.P. science. Say a prayer for the dying and bury the rotting corpse on umbilical hill.

BEFORE YOU GO HOME, MY NIGGA, SEND THEM HOME TO THEIR MAKER, MY NIGGA!
