My talk focused on a less spoken reason as to why ketogenic metabolic therapy (KMT) is effective in treating cancer. Aside from restricting glucose as their primary fuel, the endogenous production of ketones (excluding from MCT oil), indicates that the stimulus for insulin demand and secretion, is being kept low. This is important because it is insulin (hyperinsulinaemia) that is chronically harming the mitochondria, increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and stimulating cell growth and division (proliferation) whilst damaging the major controlled cell death mechanism, which is mitochondrial triggered apoptosis.
Furthermore, hyperinsulinaemia, increases the other major growth factors that increase the risk of cancer and worsens prognosis. The restriction of dietary carbohydrates to decrease insulin demand and signalling, and the subsequent decrease in growth factors including VEGF, EGF, IGF-1, MCP-1 and Leptin, further strengthens why Ketogenic Endocrine Metabolic Oncology (KEMO) is a logical and effective measure to take if you want to reduce risk of cancer and improve prognosis should you have a diagnosis.
It is important to note that it is not only dietary carbohydrates that increase insulin signalling. Poor quality and lack of sleep, lack of exposure to noon daylight, medications that harm stomach acid production which increase GERD/acid reflux, medications that increase glucocorticoids, drugs that increase diabetes insipidus, poorly formulated supplements and more. It is just that what we eat, has the most profound effect on insulin demand, and therefore must be our first focus to get the biggest positive changes.

The paper proposes that seed oils, by causing oxidative stress, force cells to change their fueling strategy. The result of that is metabolic disease and cancer.
It works like this:
Oxidative stress suffocates cells. It puts them into a kind of survival mode, and activates genes for bringing sugar into the cell. That's called aerobic glycolysis, which is now understood to be the main mechanism driving cancer!
At the whole-person level, many cells stealing sugar from the bloodstream all at once lower our blood sugar. That causes hypoglycemia, and then you get a flood of stress hormones.
This is immediately practical.
Wonder why you feel hangry? That's why. And yes it means you have insulin resistance. Cancer and insulin resistance share the same root cause. So if you get hangry, you are at higher risk of cancer.
This paper explains why insulin resistance and cancer are rampant among youth. They were tragically born and raised on more processed foods than any previous generation. Seed oils are the worst ingredient in processed foods.
The older someone is, the higher the probability they're not in good metabolic health.

But new science is prompting doctors and other health professionals to take note of the impact of child abuse on long-term health and survival. In one recent, revealing study, scientists evaluated national survey data to determine the mortality rate of 6,300 people over the course of 20 years. The group was mostly white, roughly split between men and women, and had completed a questionnaire detailing any history of child abuse. At the end of the study, the average age of survivors was 47 years. The researchers controlled for other mitigating factors that could impact their findings, including socioeconomic status or mental health disorders.
The study’s findings were striking, particularly for women. Female subjects who reported having experienced physical abuse were 58 percent more likely to die from all causes during the study period. Women who were emotionally abused were 22 percent more likely to die during the observed 20 years. Men who had a history of child abuse did not experience any impact on overall mortality rates.
So women who experience child abuse are much more likely to become sick and die earlier compared to men who’ve had a similar experience or women who’d never been abused. This is a study looking strictly at death rates. Now, let’s examine how abuse can affect quality, not just quantity, of life for men and women.
