Jared's mother is 25% Hawaiian and has no ties to Hawaii. She's a racially admixed Californian. Jarod's grandfather was 50% Hawaiian and born in California but made some connections in Hawaii while living and working there in the 70s. (Jarod's grandfather is a product of ancestral Hawaii, not modern, multicultural Hawaii.) 

Jarod is NOT FILIPINO, at least not culturally. His mother is 25% Filipino but knows nothing about Filipino culture, only had two Filipino friends her entire life, and in fact isn't too fond of Filipinos. (We have no ties to the Philippines because our father had no ties to the Philippines.)

Our father didn't name his children. He left that and other parenting duties to our mother. Nor did our father pass much Hawaiian culture onto his children. Our father was just an average white American from Los Angeles that would badger, belittle, and beat the shit out of his children. (Besides my brother Richie, my siblings and I don't really identify as Hawaiian.)

Over the course of 30 years (from about the late 1960s to the early 1990s) my father coached hundreds of my brothers' peers and my peers in the games of football, baseball, and basketball. During this time NONE of the boys he coached knew of his unprecedented and unparalleled athletic past and only a handful of the fathers of those boys knew.

Mike's father, Lito, didn't coach him. Beginning at age 8 my father coached him. Mike's father, Lito, just took pictures and fawned over me while his daughters lusted after me.
